Construction
& Demolition Recycling and Backyard Burning
Education Grant
The
Association received an environmental education grant in
2006-2007 from the Environmental Protection Agency to
educate residents about the reuse and recycling of
construction and demolition materials as well as the
health and environmental effects of the backyard burning
of household garbage.
Topics throughout training sessions and presentations
included opportunities for concrete, wood, scrap metal
recycling, green building, C&D recovery,
abandoned buildings, composting, consumer recycling and
more. Training sessions were held in New Town,
Dickinson, Bismarck, Valley City and Devils Lake.
We educated over 1,000 people through this opportunity
including students, teachers, contractors, landfill
operators, individuals, government employees, health
employees, tribal, university and military people.
Student surveys were conducted to obtain results for
knowledge and practices of the backyard burning of
household garbage. Adults were also
surveyed. See the following link for the results.
One of the goals of the grant was to make the
information duplicable or useful to communities and
other states/programs that wish to use our resources.
If you are interested in using some of the following
resources to educate residents in your community or wish
to receive a CD containing some of the following
resources, please contact Angela (see bottom of page for
contact information).
