About the NDSWRA

The North Dakota Solid Waste and Recycling Association is a non-profit organization that formed to educate, train, and promote environmentally sound waste management practices.  We are dedicated to keeping you up-to-date on the latest news in solid waste management and recycling in North Dakota.  Each September, the Association holds the annual Solid Waste & Recycling Symposium to bring current solid waste and recycling issues to the forefront.

Established in 1996 as the North Dakota Solid Waste Management Association, our Association has become more focused on recycling over the years and changed the name of the organization in September 2004 to reflect this.  If you have any questions (comments are welcome too!), please do not hesitate to contact us.

Assistant Director
Jerry Volk
(701) 590-0488

The NDSWRA Board of Directors reviewed applicant submissions in May 2010 and interviewed three candidates in June for the Executive Director position.  Jerry Volk starts in July as the Assistant Director for the NDSWRA.  Jerry has spent the last 30+ years working as an engineering consultant and felt it was time for a change and new direction in his life.  He has been a past member of the NDSWRA and has attended many conferences and events with the Association.  Jerry resides in Dickinson with his wife and together they have five children and five grandchildren spread across the country.

Jerry has always had a passion for recycling and finding creative ways to reuse materials in different ways.  He states, "I believe that the overall management of our solid waste and the recycling of products and materials is an important part of maintaining a safe environment for our children, grandchildren and future generations.  Each of us has an obligation to do what we can.  Getting successful recycling programs started in our rural areas is extremely challenging and hopefully my engineering background and experience in working with smaller communities will be helpful in assisting communities and committees in this endeavor."  Jerry hopes to meet many of you in Aberdeen and in the upcoming months.  He will train in as the next director until November, when Angela will "retire" after 12 years with the Association.  Be sure to welcome him aboard and feel free to contact him with any questions, concerns or ideas about the Association at the number or e-mail address above.  The NDSWRA's future mailing address (after October 2010) will be: NDSWRA, P.O. Box 1628, Dickinson, ND 58602-1628.
