Back in 2005, Lake Agassiz Regional Development Corporation, along with MinnKota Recycling, received a rural development grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to provide education assistance and training for communities on the proper disposal and recycling methods of appliance and scrap metal waste.
The goal was to provide communities, residents, and businesses with a structured design on how to implement and develop collection systems that are in compliance with universal waste rules yet correspond to local needs. They wanted to provide rural communities with access to cost effective management programs of their municipal solid waste, especially appliances and scrap metal. The project was funded and supported by the USDA, Lake Agassiz Development Grant - Rural Utilities Service - Water & Environmental Program, MinnKota Recycling, the ND Department of Health and the ND Solid Waste and Recycling Association (NDSWRA). The scrap metal and appliance recycling pages (and links on those pages) were done in 2005 and are now supported by the NDSWRA.
